3 Biggest Mistakes that Growing Service Providers Make on Instagram

3 mistakes growing service providers make on instagram

Let’s talk about the 3 biggest mistakes that growing service providers make on Instagram because these are ones I see popping up a LOT!

Mistake 1: No Content Pillars

The first mistake growing service providers make is not having any content pillars.

Content pillars are basically categories that your Instagram account is about.

Having content pillars not only allows you as a service provider to stay focused and organized, but it also attracts your IDEAL customers to follow you on Instagram.

We have an entire training lesson called the Social Media Game Plan inside Smarter Moms School, so if you’re already a student, check that out.

Mistake 2: Publishing Content Inconsistently

The second mistake growing service providers make is being inconsistent with publishing content.

Being consistent is important because it builds trust with your audience.

When your audience can expect you to post something of value to them consistently, you instantly set the expectation that they can rely on you with the services your business offers.

Mistake 3: Not Engaging With Ideal Customers

The last mistake growing service providers make is not engaging with ideal customers.

This is important because of the nature of Instagram ~ it’s a social media platform meaning… be social on it!

Engaging with your ideal customers (vs any random account) shows that you care about creating a real connection first before engaging in any kind of business transaction (which can feel very slimy when done too early).

Is This One Thing Why You’re Not Selling More?

If you’re tired of pouring so much time and energy into promoting your content for the holiday season, then it’s likely because of this:

You aren’t addressing your buyer’s objections. 👀

🌟 It’s super important to address these early and head on because of you don’t… your buyers will not buy your stuff.

In this video you’ll learn the top common objections + how to address them:

✅ Your buyer doesn’t have the money
✅ Your buyer doesn’t have the time
✅ Your buyer needs to check with their spouse

How to Boost Your Instagram Account for FREE

If you’ve been trying to make Instagram work for your business, but are frustrated with the results (or lack thereof), these tips will help.

👉 OPTIMIZE YOUR BIO

Your bio is like an invitation to a party (your account!). Describe who you help and what people will learn from you.

Pro tip: Your bio isn’t actually about *you*… it’s about your audience and what they can expect to see from your account.

👉 USE NEW FEATURES

Did you know that Instagram rewards those who use their new features?

Rewards = a boost in the algorithm.

New features may include:
🌟 Reels
🌟 Story stickers (those fun ones like “Stay Home” and “Support Small Business”)
🌟 Filters
🌟 Tagging products
🌟 Creating Guides

👉 REPLY TO COMMENTS

Respond to every comment on your posts.

The sooner the better.

And if you don’t have any comments yet?

Leave thoughtful comments on other accounts in your industry to increase your visibility. Not only will the account owner see your comment, but their followers will see it, too.

👉 POST CONSISTENTLY

Scheduling ahead of time is what will save your sanity on Instagram.

Whether you decide to post once a week or once a month, Instagram just likes to see consistency with your posting activities.

👉 GIVE VALUE

Value = information your audience is looking for.

Give value in your posts, stories, reels, and comments.

Fun fact: There’s no such thing as giving too much value!

👉 USE HASHTAGS

Using the right hashtags with your content will boost your visibility. Ensure they’re relevant to both the caption and image.

Fun fact: Instagram uses image technology to recognize photos.

If you’re able to use all 30 hashtags in a post, go for it. Just ensure they’re all relevant or you could have your post blocked from being seen by anyone.

These six things will give your account a boost… for free! The key thing to remember is that consistency is super important.

Which of these will you use today?

Do you own your business (or does it own you)?

Cause girl, if you don’t know your biz finances, I hate to say it, but your biz owns you.

It’s not the sexy side of business, but you know what is?

Being the ACTUAL boss by knowing your numbers.

Instead of feeling helpless about all this finance mumbo jumbo, focus on what you CAN control:

💰Your expenses. What are all the things (big and small) you spend money on in order to keep your business running?

💰 Your income. How much money are your bringing in every month?

💰 Your profit. Don’t be that girl who focuses only on her sales. Be the boss that you are and see what’s making you profitable.

💰 Your taxes. And I know jusssst the girl who knows her 💩 when it comes to this one: @nandatheaccountant (Go follow her on Instagram. She gives out soooo much free info!)

20 Ideas to Post on Social Media

Show a product or service you sell
Explain who it’s for and what problem it solves.

Tell people who you are and how you help.
People do business with *people*. Share three fun facts about yourself and who you love to serve.

Ask for recommendations related to your business.
Podcasts, apps, books, audiobooks, planners. You get the idea!

Share a personal story.
Tell what the problem was, who you sought help from, and how you were able to overcome that problem.

Post a sneak peek of something coming soon from your business.
Build up awareness and anticipation so you don’t catch people off guard with your new product or service.

Share a customer or client testimonial.
Show some social proof! Share a screenshot of a direct message you had (ask the other person for permission first and be sure to block out their name and photo to protect their privacy). No testimonials yet? Share something positive that someone else has said about you.

Remind people to sign up for your email list.
Give them an incentive to do so though. What’s something that will solve a quick problem they have that you can give them in exchange for their email address?

Host an “Ask Me Anything” on IG Stories.
Invite people to start a conversation with you. If no one asks, enter the questions yourself and answer them in a separate story (no one will be able to see who asked the question AND you get to educate your viewers at the same time).

Share an encouraging quote.
Have a quote that resonates with your audience? Post it! People love that stuff.

Share someone else’s content and explain why you like it.
Be sure to tag the other person so they can see it. They’ll likely return the favor and let their followers know that their content was shared on your account!

Share news in your industry and your thoughts about it.
People love a good opinion (bonus points if it’s controversial). This also positions yourself as an authority in your industry.

Answer Frequently Asked Questions.
Educate your audience will questions you’re frequently asked. Again, if no one has ever asked you questions before because you’re just getting started, think of some objections that people may have about your product or service and answer those.

Share a personal win or result.
Again, people do business with *people*. By sharing something that you personally achieved, you make yourself relatable to your audience (you’ll see your engagement soar when you’re relatable).

Host a guest interview.
Know someone who could add value to your audience? Interview them and share it with your audience!

Post a One-Day Sale.
Have a sale on your product or service for 24 hours, then be sure to stick to your sale when it ends. This positions you as an authority and lets people know you’re serious about your one-day sale when the 24 hours is over.

Share a quick tip related to your industry.
People look to you as their guide. Tell them the WHAT of the tips (the HOW is your product or service).

Go behind the scenes of your work.
What’s life like for you off screen?

Give your audience a gift.
This could be a discount code, a freebie to download, a thank you note, etc.

Share your favorite book.
Tell your followers why you love it and what you learned from it.

Tell a joke.
Add a sense of humor to your online presence. Bonus points if it’s related to your industry.

Be Friendly, Not Free

Do you always hear…

What do you think of…?
Can I get your input about…?
Can I ask you a quick question?
Would you look this over for me?
Can you check this out for me real quick?
What would you say if I did this…?

If you do, then that signals that you have knowledge that people find valuable.

Monetize that knowledge by being friendly, not free.

Offer consulting sessions to those who’d like to pick your brain.

For example:
30 minutes: $35
1 hour: $55

Acuity and Calendly are great tools to use where interested people can book these sessions with you (and pay for your services, too).
